
LEAD BOSSING
Step 1 - Set the Lead
The main stages in bossing a corner are shown in the image below, the example being a corner for a flat roof covering. Folding lines are first set in using a setting-in stick or dresser, and the surplus lead is cut off . The sides are partly pulled up and the corner is set in by directing a few blows downwards with a bossing stick to form the base of the corner.

Step 3 - Trimming Lead
Surplus lead forms as the bossing proceeds and this is trimmed off when the required shape and angle of the corner has been reached. The surplus is greatest for a corner to a flat roof and progressively decreases as the angle between the roof covering and wall increases.

Step 2 - Bossing the lead
The corner is then worked up, the boss mate being held on the inside of the angle and the blows from the bossing stick directed from the base of the corner, in order to boss the lead up progressively to the top of the corner.
